What is and where is Dancing house Prague?

The building named the Dancing House or Fred and Ginger (which was named after world-famous dancers Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers as the building lookds like dancers) is the name for the Nationale-Nederland house located at the Rašín nábřeží (Rašín Embankment) in the capital of the Czech Republic – Prague. The building was designed in 1992 and completed in 1996 by Vlado Milunić and Frank Gehry.

Dancing House – The modern building among the historical ones

As the modern building is situated among the Baroque, Gothic or Art Nouveau style houses (which are historical), it was taken to be controversial. However, according to some people they form very interesting unit with the historical buildings.

The role of Vaclav Havel – The Dancing House has very interesting background as it was designed in the place of a house which was damaged by the U. S. bombing of the city in 1945. During 1986 Milunić focused on the idea of making the project at this place and discussed this idea with former dissident and future president of Czechoslovakia Václav Havel. And as Václav Havel was involved and affected by this idea he helped the idea come true as he hoped that the house will be a cultural centre. In these days the Dancing house stays one of the most stop for those who are interested in modern architecture. The common expression for the Dancing house is the Dance house Prague.

Elaborate building – Dancing house Prague

The Dancing house is very important historical property as it is very elaborate building. It ougth to be the house consisting of two parts which should symbolize the dissolution of Czechoslovakia from a communist regime. The style which is represented in here is named deconstructivism or new-baroque (for designers) for its not very typical shape. 99 concrete panels are supporting the moving part of the building. At the upper part there is a large twisted monument which is called Medusa.

Two parts of the building

There are two parts inside of the building. The first of them forms a glass tower that is supported by curved pillars and the second one is the parallel to the river. This building looks very impressive and it is definitely a work of art and design as it forms the three-dimensionality effect and gives us the confusing perspective which makes the contrast to the buildings which are in the neighbourhood of the Dancing house.
